Adult English

Practise workplace English as a connected task

Link a meeting update, follow-up questions and a short email around one real task so that the purpose and feedback stay concrete.

Who this guide is for

Adults who discuss projects, explain decisions or communicate with international colleagues and customers.

Find the information gap

Break a recent interaction into background, decision, constraints and next action. Is the difficulty understanding a question, explaining a reason or disagreeing politely? Those are different training needs. Use only work information that you are authorised to share, and remove sensitive details before bringing it into practice.

Produce three connected outputs

Explain the situation in one minute, respond when another person changes a condition, then write a three-sentence follow-up. The first attempt reveals gaps, questions test your response and the written record checks responsibilities and timing. Short material can still support a demanding, useful task.

Carry feedback into the next attempt

Keep one language point and one communication point, such as an unclear tense and a missing owner for the next action. Practise them again before adding difficulty. The iMentoris iEMS teaching handoff uses goals, materials and lesson feedback to inform subsequent content. Specialist matching is confirmed through a needs review.

Try a concrete task

Expand “We have a problem” to “The shipment is delayed by two days. I will confirm the revised arrival date by 3 p.m.” Then answer a question about the client impact. The editorial example practises facts and next steps; it does not make a real business commitment.

Before choosing a course

  • Choose a recent task and prepare facts that can be shared.
  • Practise the update, a changed condition and a written confirmation.
  • Compare two attempts for both language clarity and information completeness.

Common questions

Should I learn many specialist words first?

Start by explaining the task with language you can use, then add terms that change understanding. A large vocabulary does not replace a clear communication structure.

Can AI replace live practice?

AI can suggest questions and help with drafts. Understanding and responding to a real follow-up still needs an interactive check.

Is company training the same as an individual course?

A company programme also needs agreement on roles, levels, attendance and reporting. It requires its own proposal.
